Z-Wave Alliance and DEST present leading solutions and technologies for lowering energy consumption in the mass market

Copenhagen, 07. August 2008 – The Z-Wave Alliance and the Danish Electricity Savings Trust (DEST) will present the first European Home Control and Energy Conference on 1st of October 2008 at the Hilton Airport Hotel in Copenhagen.
The focus of the full day conference will be how energy consumption in European households can be drastically lowered – thus reducing environmental impact – with the help of Wireless Home Control technology.
Some months ago, DEST chose the Z-Wave as the recommended technology for use in wireless home communication. Low power consumption, reliable and interoperable technology, as well as an increasing number of product suppliers, are the major reasons - reasons that have made the Z-Wave mesh networking technology the most promising home control solution in Europe. At the conference, decision-makers from well-known companies in the home control market, energy providers as well as high-ranking representatives from government and economic committees will discuss current market trends and technologies.
Climate change and the constantly increasing energy costs force energy providers as well as consumers to rethink their approach to energy use. The Danish Electricity Savings Trust is a governmental non-profit organisation which has made it its business to help consumers and public institutions save energy. The key mission of DEST is to promote high-quality, energy-saving technologies and to increase environmental awareness using events such as the October Home Control and Energy Saving Conference.

The future is here now

The promise of the intelligent home sounds futuristic to many. However, with “MyHome”, DEST has developed an Internet platform which, with the help of wireless technology, makes it possible to monitor and control all consumption devices in a house from anywhere in the world. A demonstration of this approach can be found at: www.savingtrust.dk/myhome.

Energy savings with smart metering applications

At the conference, the Danish energy provider and Z-Wave Alliance partner Modstroem will present an innovative solution for lowering electricity costs which burden consumers. Using Z-Wave-based tools for indication of energy consumption, Modstroem provides its customers with support for reduction of energy consumption. The savings can then either be credited to the household or invested in “CO2 Certificates”, which Modstroem purchases and destroys.

Z-Wave Wireless Home Control reduces energy consumption in the house

Within the framework of the event, the Z-Wave Alliance and DEST will present solutions which lower heating costs and electricity consumption in every household. For instance, heating costs can be lowered up to 30 percent merely through the utilisation of Z-Wave-based wireless heating element thermostats – which results in savings of up to 500 euros per year for a normal household! In addition, other concepts and solutions – which will substantially reduce electricity consumption – will also be shown at the conference. A vast number of reasonably priced Z-Wave products are available today, which permits consumers to dramatically lower their energy consumption. Companies such as Danfoss, Merten, Innovus, Seluxit, Everspring, düwi, Hawking, Horstmann etc. have already brought home control products onto the market in Europe, which make energy costs controllable.

Conference agenda highlights include:
- How Home Control solutions protect the environment
- Wireless technology tools: a convenient truth
- Z-Wave: the standard for Wireless Home Control
- Energy-saving wireless technology from a governmental perspective
- Market differences between the USA and Europe
- Energy-saving trends
- Generate added values with “MyHome”, the DEST energy management tool
